Data Rights
You own your data. Chief gives you concrete tools to exercise that ownership.
Right to Export
Available any time, no questions asked.
How: Dashboard → Settings → Data → Export.
You get:
- A JSON archive of every Slack thread Chief has been part of in your tenant
- Every generated file (PDFs, sheets, etc.) Chief has produced
- All saved memories (skills, preferences, references)
- Full usage records — every task, every tool call (durations, not bodies)
- All integration metadata (which integrations exist, not the credentials themselves — those are encrypted only)
- Tenant settings
The archive is generated asynchronously (can take a few minutes for large tenants) and emailed as a download link to the requesting admin. Link is valid for 7 days.
Export is also auto-triggered on cancellation — you’ll receive a one-shot full export 7 days after canceling.
Right to Deletion
Two flavors:
Selective Deletion
Delete a specific thread, generated file, or memory:
- Thread: from the Slack thread, “Chief, forget this conversation.” The thread context is purged from Chief’s storage (the Slack messages themselves remain in your Slack — that’s outside Chief’s control).
- File: from Dashboard → Files → ⋮ → Delete.
- Memory:
/chief-knowledge→ Delete, or “Chief, forget that I prefer Friday standups.”
Deletes are immediate and unrecoverable.
Full Tenant Deletion
Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Tenant.
- All tenant data marked for destruction.
- 30-day grace period — you can cancel by clicking “Restore” any time during it.
- After day 30, all data is permanently destroyed. Convex purges encrypted blobs and metadata. We have no backups to restore from.
Right to Rectification
You can correct any data Chief has wrong about you:
- User profile: “Chief, my role is now VP, not Director.”
- Saved memories: edit in Dashboard → Knowledge.
- Personal data in threads: ask Chief to forget specific facts.
Right to Restrict Processing
You can pause Chief without deleting data: Dashboard → Settings → Pause Tenant.
- Slack stops responding.
- Crons stop firing.
- Dashboard remains accessible for review and export.
- Resume any time.
This is useful for procurement holds, compliance reviews, or sabbaticals.
Right to Portability
The export JSON is a clean, structured format. We don’t gatekeep — take it elsewhere if you want.
Subject Access Requests (SAR)
If a user in your tenant (not the tenant admin) wants a copy of their personal data:
- The user emails
privacy@hirechief.ai. - We confirm with the tenant admin (the data controller).
- Within 30 days, we provide a per-user data export limited to that user’s threads, memories, and generated files.
Tenant admins remain the data controllers. Chief is a processor.
