getting-startedInstall in Slack

Install Chief in Slack

Chief installs as a standard Slack app via OAuth. The whole flow takes under a minute.

Start the Install

  1. From your dashboard, click Install in Slack.
  2. Slack asks you to pick the workspace.
  3. Slack shows the requested permissions (see below) — click Allow.
💡

You need to be a Slack workspace admin or owner to install apps. If you’re not, ask your admin to start the install — they can hand the app off to you afterward.

The “Getting to Know You” DM

Right after install, Chief opens a DM and asks five short questions:

  1. What’s your role on the team?
  2. What kind of work do you usually do?
  3. What does success look like for you this quarter?
  4. Are there any topics or tools you don’t want Chief to touch?
  5. Anything else Chief should know about how you like to work?

Your answers seed Chief’s persistent user model. They’re stored in your tenant only and used to tailor every future response.

You can re-run this conversation any time by saying Chief, let's redo our intro.

Test It

DM Chief in Slack:

Hi Chief, who are you and what can you do?

Chief should respond with a short intro and a few suggestions tailored to your role. If it doesn’t respond within ~30 seconds, check Dashboard → Status for any health alerts.
