What is Chief?
Chief is an autonomous AI coworker that lives in your Slack workspace. It uses Claude (and optionally other models on Enterprise) to reason, plan, and execute real work — writing scripts, browsing the web, processing files, building apps, and running on a schedule.
How is Chief different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT answers questions in a chat window. Chief does work in your existing tools.

What does BYOK mean?
Bring Your Own Key. You add your own Anthropic (and optionally OpenAI, Gemini) API key in the dashboard. Chief uses your key for all AI calls, so token usage is billed by your provider directly. Chief charges only the platform subscription. See BYOK.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. Each tenant’s data is isolated by tenantId at the query level. Chief is built on Convex (single secure data layer) and runs only in workspaces you’ve explicitly invited it to. See Security.
Can I use my own OpenAI key?
OpenAI / Codex access is an Enterprise plan feature. Pro is Anthropic-only. See Plans for the full provider matrix.
What happens if I cancel?
Your subscription stays active through the end of the current billing period, then your tenant is marked inactive. We retain your data for 30 days in case you reactivate, then delete it on request. See Cancellation.
Do you offer annual billing?
Yes — annual plans get a discount on Pro and Enterprise. Contact sales@hirechief.ai for an invoice-based annual contract.
What Slack permissions does Chief need?
Chief requests the minimum scopes to read messages it’s mentioned in or DMed, post replies, upload files, and (optionally) manage channels. The full list is shown during install. See Slack Install.
Can multiple team members use Chief?
Yes. Chief is multi-tenant per Slack workspace. Anyone in your workspace can DM Chief or @-mention it in a channel where Chief is invited. Workspace admins control billing and credentials from the dashboard.
